Years before former NFL player Kellen Winslow Jr was convicted of raping a 58-year-old homeless woman and pleasuring himself in front of a 77-year-old, the wealthy son of a Hall of Famer earned himself a reputation as a pornography addict who was known to masturbate in front of his teammates.
That is according to an explosive new account from Sports Illustrated, which details Winslow Jr’s alleged history of inappropriate sexual behavior, including watching pornographic videos during team meetings, masturbating in shared hotel rooms and traveling with an anatomically accurate woman’s torso fashioned out of silicone.
On Monday, the 35-year-old multimillionaire former tight end, who is married with two children, was found guilty of rape, indecent exposure and lewd conduct involving three different women.
According to Sport illustrated’s reporting relying on two teammates and three former team officials, from his years with the Cleveland Browns in the early 2000s to his final season with the New York Jets in 2013, Winslow became notorious for watching copious amounts of pornography in socially inappropriate situations and compulsively masturbating.
‘He could count on having an empty seat next to him on any team flight, due to his ritual of watching hardcore pornography on his portable DVD player,’ the article stated, citing Winslow’s former teammates and officials.
On one occasion, as recounted by the magazine, a Browns team staffer went out looking for Winslow and allegedly found him masturbating in the backseat of his parked Hummer.
On another, an equipment manager was bringing gear into the team locker room when he walked in on Winslow pleasuring himself near the entrance, according to two team officials.
During away games, no one on the team wanted to share hotel accommodations with the tight end because it was widely known that he was in the habit of watching porn and masturbating without any regard for who was in the room with him.
In the early days of smartphones, Winslow allegedly took to watching adult content on his device during meetings, it was reported.
Romeo Crennel, former Browns head coach, and former team assistant Terry Robiskie made efforts to correct Winslow’s behavior and impress upon him that his conduct was beyond the pale, but to no avail.
