A humiliated 19-year-old was arrested for trying to shoot dead a man who ‘catfished’ him on a dating app by pretending to be an attractive woman.
Chauncey Wilkerson was arrested on charges of illegal use of a weapon and aggravated assault with a firearm after officers responded to a hit-and-run accident at his home on Monday, reported WBRZ.
The Baton Rouge teen told police he met the driver on a dating app called TAGGED, and said the other man was ‘catfishing him’ by pretending to be a woman.
Authorities responded to the 2800 block of Gore Road to find Wilkerson and his mother having been struck by a vehicle.
After learning he was communicating with a man, Wilkerson says he stopped communicating with him, only for him to come to his home and try to contact him.
But the 19-year-old said he told the unnamed man several times via the dating app not to come near him.
So when he saw the man parked in his home’s driveway, Wilkerson and his mother both approached the vehicle, reported WBRZ.
According to arrest records, Wilkerson had his mother’s 9mm handgun for protection.
The man then backed out of the driveway and drove towards Wilkerson and his mother with the intent of hitting them, according to records.
Wilkerson then fired four shots at the man as he was backing out of the driveway and fleeing down the road, the records say.
He was arrested, but there has been no word on if the other man involved in the altercation faces any charges.
